The Kit

As I begin this blog I feel i should give a bit of background on what equipment I have, and why, and how it has evolved over the course of several years. I have built up my gear over a period of time and have learnt a lot about lenses and cameras, and what is good for one person is not always the right choice for you. There have been many times I have had the wrong focal length but you can’t carry all your lenses all the time, so getting a balance based on where you are going is the best way to go. This has been particularly prevalent when deciding on what to use for Weddings. This is something that has evolved over the past few years to what I now use today.

The canon 7D my first DSLR camera. I have had this since 2011 and has been all over the place with me. It is great for wildlife due to its cropped sensor and fast shutter speed. Still in use today with the 70-200mm lens.

Here is an example of the 7D at work:

taken at Annapurna Base camp in November 2011. This was taken on Benro monopod with a  canon EF-S 15-85mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens. altitude is around 4.130m above sea level. After trecking for around 4 days i was greeted by this view looking back the way i had come.

My second body was the 6D. This was my first full frame camera and was bought in 2015. It has been used for weddings and events alongside the 7D, and has been great when paired with an L series Lens. It was chosen over the 5D Mk 3 originally because of its price point but it has been a great camera all the same.

Here is an example of the 6D paired with an L Series Lens:

This was taken with the 100mm Macro Lens at f2 paired with the canon 6D. This was taken this summer in Bushy park near my home. The Bees were all over these flowers so did not stop for long. This was also taken hand held without tripod.

My final Body is the 5D Mk3. This is my new full frame DSLR that is my go too body for most things. It is my most recent body and was only a consideration after its replacement the MK 4 came out. It is again full frame so is paired with the 6D now for weddings and events but it is great in low light and general everyday use.

have a look at an example of the 5D Mk 3 below:

This was taken a few weeks ago on an Autumn walk with friends at Box hill in Surrey. The 5D was paired with the 35mm F1.4. This camera and lens creates great colour throughout the image. Again no tripod used.
