Eggshells

Eggshells

Autumn is fast turning into winter as we seem to speed toward christmas and the years end with some pretty awful wet weather ruining any real hope of capturing anymore of the Autumn colours I had in Poland, so it was down to bonfire night to bring some much needed photographic relief. I took myself off to witness a large bonfire display in Bristol, looking to try and photograph the spectacle of this event as best I could. I managed to get to the front of the crowd to try and get some hand held images of the event. I played around with the settings for a while to get the perfect balance, holding the camera above my head and using live view to position the bonfire in the middle of the shot. Below are a few of the images that came out as I wanted, using a fast shutter speed and keeping the ISO as low as possible.

Due to a lack of trips this month I have some drone images I actually took back in september which for one reason or another have not made it into the blog. I went down to ham wall RSPB reserve outside Glastonbury with the idea to get some wildlife images with the 400mm. I ended up having a very frustrating day with the 400mm unable to capture a useable image that I was happy with. It was left down to the drone at the end of the day as the light began to fade to try and salvage something useable from the trip. The images below are of the amazing mana made reed beds that have been created to help attract and home rare bird species such as the bearded reedling and the elusive Bittern.

As I flew the drone around the waterways I was able to pick out some interesting patterns and lines in the reed beds which I think are really interesting to view from this unusual angle.

The only other trip this month of note was a trip down to cornwall for a long weekend. The images below were all taken on this trip while walking the dog or during a walk on the beach.

There was one sunny day during my trip down to cornwall so a beach trip was the order of the day with the 400mm and 70-200mm lenses being used to photograph all the dogs on the beach we were walking on. The first two being total accidents while setting up for other shots.

After taking some images of the various dogs that frequented the beaches of cornwall, I gave the drone an airing, using it to fly over the freaking waves to where some surfers were practicing their skills in the cold choppy cornish waters.

Due to the noise that the waves made, the surfers were unaware of the drone hovering above them. this meant I was able to take my time positioning the drone directly above some of them without their knowledge.

Finally, some images of the breaking waves on the beach creating interesting and beautiful lines and patterns. I had a great time flying up and down the beach trying to pick out patterns and lines in the waves as I went.
