Drone Strike Pt.4
Back again with some images taken recently with my drone while out and about. From forest to harvest and a little in between. I am now always on the lookout for potential shapes and colours whenever I am out and look forward to Autumn with some excitement as to how the changing landscape will look from the top down.
While out walking, I saw a field of solar panels in the distance from where I was so up went the drone. On its way there however I stumbled across some fields being harvested. I ended up following the combine harvester, using the simple lines to create some really striking images which I love.
The last image was edited with a slightly cooler colour pallet.
I finally made it over to my intended destination of the solar panels with only seconds to spare before the drone chirped to up to me from the control that it only had enough battery to return to home in 10 seconds or the battery would die. This was the first time I have flown it so far way that it had to return so I waited with great trepidation for the drone to make it back to me in one piece. This further highlighted to me just how constraining the battery is. In this instance it meant I only had a few seconds to get a few images, with most being unusable due to the reflection of the sun. Only one image came out good enough to show on here and even this had to be heavily cropped to produce a useable image.
After taking a few images of a copse of trees, I wasn’t getting the desired image I was looking for so decided to put the drone up to see if it could get some more interesting images of the trees from below
I was much happier with the patterns and colours that can be seen from above the copse.
A trip down to Severn beaches as the sun went down created another opportunity to fly my drone, first to take some images of the bridge as the sun sank below the horizon, and then to photograph the exposed mudbanks. The golden hour light with the cracked mud in the sun made for some interesting patterns and shapes as I flew above.
The light changed as I moved along the mudbanks, creating a different colour pallet with each shot.
Finally some shots I took during the downs festival as madness were on stage performing. I could hear the music clearly from my house so decided to take the chance and go up the road to find a quiet spot on the downs to fly the drone from. I took the drone up high so I was not disturbing the event, and kept well outside the perimeter. I only had a few minutes of light to play with so shot about 8 images very quickly. I took the images at ISO 100 to keep grain to a minimum, F2.8 and with a slow shutter speed of 1/8th of a second or lower to use as much of the fading light as possible. The drones cameras stabilization did a great job of creating a decent image even at this slow shutter speed which really impressed me.
As with the mudbanks light. the dying light was changing by the second which made composing and shooting these images a real challenge. I selected to under expose the images and keep the ISO at 100 so the details could be preserved when edited in lightroom.
