Oceans Niagara
Well right off the bat its been a minute since my last post so lets address that first of all. Something terrible happened recently (well to me anyway)….MY HARDDRIVE CRASHED!!!… Two years of photos potentially gone in the blink of an eye. After the cold sweat subsided, realisation hit…. Gutted was an understatement. The only consolation was a very fruitful woodland trip I had done had not yet been saved onto the now deceased hard drive, so the images I took that day survived to be finally uploaded on here for your viewing pleasure.
My planned day trips to my favourite woodland patch have become a bit of a routine these days, with each visit at different times of the year yielding varied and usually very satisfying results, from Drone images of its lake, Venus fly traps in its swamps and woodpeckers feeding their chicks, its always a place that seems to give me some great images with this early spring addition being no exception. Last winter I was lucky enough to photograph a crested tit here, the first one I had ever seen let alone photographed. It was a fleeting sighting and one that wet the old whistle for more. This time I had a cunning plan to bring these tiny little bids down from high up at the tops of the trees to a more respectable distance using their own call against them played on my phone.
This ‘technique’ worked better than even I had anticipated, with the inquisitive tits circling the call, honing in on where it was coming from, and moving in to take a closer look. The results were some of my favourite images I have taken on the Fujifilm XT4 and Fujinon 150-400mm lens to date.
At one point even the Coal tits in the forest started to come down to check out the calls emanating from my mobile phone, giving me the chance to capture some closer shots of these as well as they investigated .
I was finally rewarded with my favourite shot of the day, an image of a crested tit as it moved down the pine tree branches, cocking its head to listen to the call. The light was perfect as it sat out on the branch, away from any darker foliage. This also meant the beautiful red eye could be seen perfectly as well and out in the light the image is perfectly exposed and tac sharp.
I did also manage to salvage some drone images taken over various areas of Poland too which I had left on a memory card.
As well as a few drone shots, I was also able to get some street photography shots I took while in krakow. Below are some of these taken while in the district of Nowa Huta.
I did also make a trip up to London recently with some walk around street photography on the agenda, however the loss of my hard-drive means for now only two of these images survived.
I have found myself becoming more and more confident using the X100V in these sorts of crowded situations, picking out individuals or moments that I think will work well as an image. Luckily these two images survived as they were two of my favourite on the day.
I will be looking at trying to recover the files on my hard-drive in the near future so fingers crossed that this can bring them back but i’m not holding out much hope.
On that note lets hope April brings more offerings and less equipment failures, with a trip around the Baltic states on the agenda next. time around.
