Evergreen

Starting August off with some totally impromptu hot air balloon images taken while on a walk near my home. These balloons were taking off to join the international ballon festival that was taking place on the other side of Bristol. I only had my new manual 65mm macro lens so set it to infinity focusing and tried to grab some interesting photos of them as they took off into the Bristol sky, joining the other 30 plus ballon’s filling the sky.

Of course macro photography dominated the month, with the addition of the diffuser and flash being used throughout the month. Amazingly my own garden was again the main source of inspiration with the caterpillars and shield bug nymphs found on the rose bush being a fantastic macro hot spot.

A species called harvestmen (below), are a non venomous arachnid are pure nightmare fuel when photographed up close, and I’m sure were the direct inspiration for the predator films also reside at the bottom of my garden.

2024’s theme of frogs and lizards. The toad images below was my first time using the new macro set up at night as well, so a bright torch was also used to get the toad in focus.

I did also get the opportunity to slip in the 35mm lens onto the X-T5 for some street photography and architecture photos too while out and about.

Ending the month with a couple of images taken with the long lens just to show I do still use this lens. With the macro lens being the main focus for the last few months the opportunities to use it may decrease as the season changes and the insects disappear for another year. Hopefully September still brings some good opportunities to use it however.
