Victory lap

A new camera arrived in the Moffat household, with the arrival of my very first trail camera. I have dabbled with the idea of getting one for a little while now so decided to give one a try, after all my garden gets foxes in it so what else might I be able to find leaving it out….

Having foxes in my garden meant that capturing them was a guarantee so I put a bowl of water out in front of the camera and left it during the hot June weather.

After the success with the foxes in the garden, I took the trail camera into the forests of Poland and left it there for 2 days in an area I hoped to capture pine martins after finding what looked to be their skat along a fast flowing river. what I got back was nothing short of amazing and a once in a lifetime blink and you miss it video of a wolf in the wild walking with the head of a dear in its jaws.

I took a screen grab of the wolf as it briefly looked in the direction of the camera before making its way along the path and into the forest.

As well as the wolf, I was treated to a roe deer as well really close to the trap which may or may not have fallen prey to the wolf hours later.

Overall a massive triumph so hopefully more to come from this interesting new addition to the camera set-up.

After the success of the camera trapping I was back to my summer of Bugs. This summer has been a lot hotter that last year so more time has been spent out with the macro lens ready for some new bug experiences in the sun.

Decent Bird photos were actually few and far between despite a wetlands day in the sun. I mainly spent my time trying to track down a cuckoo but to no avail.

And Finally, I was hoping to end this blog post on a positive note with the announcement of a new camera and lens. But unfortunately due to the lens arriving with a full on chipped front glass, the reveal will have to wait until next month. Very frustrating but it is what it is.

I did manage to take one photo with the new camera and lens before I noticed the chip in the corner of the lens so here is what 20 frames per second looks like…
