The Lenses Pt.3
My first L series Lens
After a period of time i decided that it was time to step up to a higher end level of lens. In particular i needed something with a longer focal length that i could go on to use for Weddings.
after careful consideration i went for this lens which is by far the biggest and most noticable lens i own. I get people stopping and pointing it out to their partners when i am out with this lens.
Again as before price was still a main factor and this one was the cheapest of the 70-200mm lenses out there at around £480 new. This lens gave me the focal length as well as flexability however i came to realise it had its drawbacks as well.
2 Main points i would like to make with this lens is it is very sharp with great colours. However this lens came with a few down sides that i have come to understand. Now one is its lack of image stabalisation. At the time of purchace is could not warrent the additional £500 for the next step up with this and now i understand why it is so important to have with a lens with an aperture of F4. In low light and without a tripod this lens will just not get you anything usable. You need good light for this lens to really shine and that is something that can be a problem. I found that i was using it less and less and time went on just because of its poor performance in low light.
Although i have used the lens less and less, it has been great when paired with the 7D for wildlife photography and does get an airing every now and again.
I will in the future look at upgrading this Lens to the EF 70-200mm F2.8 lS USM MKII, but at a price point of £1800 it is just too much to warrent spending that amount on. I do think though that it will be great for weddings but i am in conflict with the next lens on this kit rundown. Until then it well be kept in my bag for these sorts of moments.
