The Lenses Pt.2

The second lens that i had was the 50mm F1.8. This lens was purchased due to its high F stop which gave it a great advantage in low light situations.

The 50mm F1.8 fixed focal lens

This lens is by far the cheapest lens and best you can buy for under £100, so when i was looking for a lens that could work in low light conditions, this was the lens i went for.

When looking for example of this lens, i really struggled as i found that the 50mm was not a focal length that i favoured. I found that using it on the cropped sensor body was a big disadvantage as it alwaysfelt too tight or not wide enough. Here is one i did find when i did a Pet shoot for a friend:

Taken on Cleethorpes beach with the 50mm 1.8 on the 6D full frame body. As you can see it gives shallow depth of field when at 1.8mm. My main gripe is the show focusing speed that can, like in this case just miss.

foot. Taken at a newborn baby shoot. Highlighting the amazing shallow depth of field you get with this lens at F/1.8

I also found that manually focusing the lens  a pain and hated how loud it was when using autofocus as its focusing was motorised so would make a very annoying mechanical whir. it was also not the fastest to focus. The main upside that this lens has is its high apperture giving a very shallow depth of field and much better bokeh than my 15-85mm. this is something that i did not capitalise on until later when other lenses came into the fore and this one sat left in my camera bag. I still actually have this lens as it is too cheap to bother selling and its so small it doesnt take up space.
