Blackbird

So 2017 is drawing to a close and thank god for that, what a year it has been, on a personal level it's been pretty rubbish, with 2017 going down as one to very much forget about, but professional/photography wise, it has gone from strength to strength and has been a wonderful coping mechanism for me. I cannot recommend it enough for anyone having their own stresses as a form of escapism and distraction, it certainly helped me out.

I have been slacking on my blog recently as I have been taking a lot of Photos that I have not showcased on here at all, so get ready for a lot of Images.

I want to begin with a night shoot I did in Bristol recently, which Just shows how much my photography has come on, with one of the images even  coming second recently in a Photography competition, so if that doesn't say i've made it i don't know what does haha.

Light trails runner up

The last image (above) is the photo in question, which came second in an online competition over the last few day. The competition was on light trails around Bristol hosted by the London camera exchange - Bristol. So thanks to them for picking my Image out as one of the best submitted to them.

Next up, a few images that has slipped through the net from when I was last up in London, the first was taken from the Tate Modern, looking across the Thames to St Paul's cathedral, it was taken on a cold windy day.  I would love to attempt this shot again with a tripod and a 10 stop filter to show the movement of the people crossing the bridge. Maybe next time....

7 Exposures in one image

After the bridge, I made my way into the Tate modern, I took the opportunity to photograph the new exhibit in the main foyer. It was a giant slow swinging, metal ball which I decided to try and photograph using multiple exposure to capture the movement of the art installation. Again I wish I had my tripod with me to stop any shake experienced between shots.

Moving on from London, I have had some time over the past few weeks to explore a lot more in Bristol, so below are a few images from the last month, taken in and around the Harbour area there on various walks or out with the Bristol photography group.

After some time in Bristol, I was off down to cornwall for christmas. I was lucky to get one decent, clear day in before the weather changed so I was down on the beach with my 35mm Lens to get some shots before the inevitable.

Praa Sands - 35mm with 10 Stop ND filter

2 Sand castles

I have been trying to pick out smaller, isolated objects recently, with these images above a good example of this. I took a pebble in the waves down on the beach outside my parents place as a subject to test this out on. I took several images from different angles and viewpoints to highlight the different kinds of image you could get from one subject. I also used my 10 stop ND filter to create the feeling of movement.

I finish this blog post with some christmas family shots documenting my time down in cornwall for my first of many christmases here. Any excuse to get my camera out really. All taken with my new 24-70mm F/2.8.

So that's it for my blog for 2017, lets hope I have a lot more to smile about in 2018 and many more photos to share on here next year. Also if anyone reading this would like to help me out or suggest something for me to photograph, im always open to ideas, and am always looking for people to photograph so just let me know.
