Wonderwall

March came up pretty fast and for some reason the weather hates me so I have not been out with my camera as much as I would have wanted to. If i had a day off, it would be overcast and drizzling, and as soon as I was back working, it would be blue skies and amazing sunsets.

my camera did not leave its bag until the saturday night, when we went out for a few drinks.....

Chelsea had her family over on the saturday but it wasn't until her Cousin and her partner came over that I finally got the camera out and took a few candid images of them getting ready to go out.

35MM

I used a combination of the 100mm Macro lens and the 35mm lens for these shots. The light was poor but the ISO capabilities of the 5D MK3 paired with the high aperture on both the lenses meant i could get quite sharp images. Noise is present but not noticeably so. I Have noticed that the 5D MK3 is much better at coping with low light like this and even hand held the images came out well.

We also got to meet a very special new arrival with one of Chelsea's friends Jess giving birth to Her baby boy Charles. I, of course had to take a few quick pictures before we got the train back down to London.

35mm

As with the images from the night before, I was using the 5D MK3 with the 35mm and 100mm Macro lens. I did also have my 135mm with me which although one of my fastest lenses, I do find that when indoors like this, the 100mm is a great lens to use. This is particularly evident when doing close up shots like these.

all of the above were taken with the 100mm Macro lens, shot wide open to get a nice shallow depth of field and keep the ISO down as low as possible. There was a light source coming from the large window in the room but due to the overcast day, the light was still pretty poor. ISO levels were around, or over 1300 mark on the majority of the images, but noise was low due to the 5D MK 3 being able to handle this sort of light.

I managed to get a couple of images before Charles started crying too much for a useable image (no one likes a crying baby) I was happy enough with the images and the 100mm did a great job isolating the subject. I would as usual, loved more light and my soft box but this was not possible in this instance.

I am hoping the weather gives me some luck soon as i'm bursting to get out with my 400mm lens. fingers crossed the next blog post will be back somewhere like bushy park.
